Antilles
Pink Toe
Avicularia versicolor
This brilliantly colored arboreal
spider builds thick tube webs in trees and other
vegetation in its native habitat on the Martinique
and Guadeloupe islands in the Caribbean Sea.
As their scientific name implies these spiders
change colors as they get older. With subsequent
molts, the blue markings on the abdomen turn
light pink, and eventually the entire abdomen
becomes bright red in color. The carapace transforms
into a stunning metallic green, and lavender
and red hairs can be seen on the legs.
