TARANTULAS

NOTE: Tarantula sizes are approximate and are stretched diagonal legspans. Scorpion and centipede sizes are approximate and are total lengths. Wild-caught animals are denoted with "WC" - all other animals are captive bred. All are sold as "unsexed" (i.e., undetermined gender) unless otherwise specified. We choose spiders to pack for your order randomly based on health, vigor, size, color and time within a molt cycle. You have an equal chance of obtaining a male or female. Many customers take advantage of our 3-lot and 6-lot pricing to raise a group of a species to increase the chances that a pair or at least one female is acquired.

We ship only on Wednesday for arrival Thursday morning via UPS Next Day Air with live arrival guaranteed. Please click here to view shipping information and here for live arrival guarantee terms. This information (and much more) can also be found in the right sidebar of this page and in detail within our Order Info page.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

A WORD ABOUT US

TARANTULAS.com is the nation's leading captive breeder of tarantulas. We specialize in arboreal tarantulas of the genera Poecilotheria (ornamental tarantulas or tiger spiders) and Avicularia (pink-toed tree spiders), but work with other popular species as well and are the largest importer of legally produced and exported Brachypelma from Mexico. We rarely sell any wild-caught tarantulas and focus on distributing our own captive-bred offspring, not carrying a laundry list of species produced by others. In short, most of what we sell we breed ourselves and we hope you will support our captive breeding efforts. Also, with rare exceptions, the majority of what we sell is very young "spiderling" tarantulas that you can enjoy growing to adult size. Our specialties, the arboreal tarantulas, grow very quickly and may reach adulthood in as little as 18 months. Other types of tarantulas may take years, but watching them grow and develop adult coloration with each successive molt is a wonderful experience. Rearing young tarantulas is the most rewarding aspect of the hobby and we hope you will read our Raising Young Tarantulas to increase your success and enjoyment.

USA SALES ONLY

We regret that our retail sales are limited to continental United States customers only. We are a USFW licensed exporter and importer, but international arachnid and reptile sales are limited to wholesale purchases in excess of $2500.

WHOLESALE INQUIRIES WELCOME

The P. metallica - Gooty Sapphire Update (September 6, 2010)

As the nation's largest and most successful breeder of Poecs in general and specifically Poecilotheria metallica, we get numerous inquiries regarding the availability of these coveted blue gems. Our last three eggsacs each sold out in a few days and we have no doubt that our next will too. Believe us, we are doing everything in our power to produce enough of this species to meet the incredible demand. We have a huge colony of females, some of which have been bred, and hope to be able to produce a steady supply of these sapphire tiger spiders for American arachnoculture. Unfortunately, our last eggsac, which was laid on February 10, was eaten by the female around March 8 - just before it was going to be pulled. We have other females mated, and a few have just been removed from cooling, but no other eggsacs incubating at this time. It is now looking like it will be probably late fall before we offer these again.

Please understand that we do not have a waiting list or any sort of announce list for future production. Our policy is to offer everything on a first-come, first-serve basis to customers who keep an eye on our website, follow us on Twitter and view our regular online adverts. Finally, retail price is never set before a species is publicly offered. Our last batch of metallica spiderlings sold for $159 each, but we cannot predict the market price at the time of our next offering. Thanks for your interest and patience.

The "Burgundy" Goliath Bird-eater Update (September 6, 2010)

We also get many inquiries regarding our Burgundy or North Guyanan Goliath Bird-eater breeding project (our general info page is here). Many of these ask about whether it is a third species of Theraphosa (we still don't know and the differences are discussed on the info page), but most are about when we will have spiderlings available again. The great news is that we recently had THREE egg sacs! Unfortunately one proved to be infertile, but another is still with the female, and the first sac has about sixty 1st instars now darkening. We are hopeful that in a couple of weeks we will be offering babies of these giants once again! Our previous sacs were very popular and sold quickly. Watch this page (or follow us on Twitter for the fastest updates) for more information.
